CADD uses surveys and reports to emphasize the effects of drunk driving, underage drinking, and alcohol use in society. These tools have been essential in addressing critical issues such as public drinking, age gating, expenditure patterns, alcohol consumption, and mental health, showcasing the urgency of tackling these challenges.
Through its extensive studies on underage drinking, drunk driving, alcohol consumption trends, and expenditure patterns, CADD has provided valuable insights to governmental agencies. For instance, surveys on the dangers of public drinking were presented to states like Maharashtra and Delhi, leading to the implementation of penalties of up to ₹5,000 for drinking in public.
In 2007, CADD’s founder, Prince Singhal, collaborated with police departments across India by presenting detailed reports and recommendations on drunk driving penalties and enforcement. This initiative resulted in a dramatic increase in annual challans for drunk driving, rising from 1,500 to 20,000 within a year.
CADD’s advocacy has played a significant role in encouraging alcohol companies in India to initiate responsible drinking and “don’t drink and drive” campaigns, which were previously absent. Furthermore, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and private corporations have begun integrating road safety and drunk driving awareness into their CSR mandates, amplifying the impact of these efforts.
Over the years, CADD has conducted more than ten comprehensive studies on critical issues. These include underage drinking, public drinking, alcohol consumption trends among women and youth, drunk driving in public transport and cab services, public perception of road safety, and age verification at alcohol sales points.
CADD’s research has been instrumental in shaping policies and legislative amendments. The organization’s efforts have not only addressed societal concerns but also fostered a culture of responsibility and safety.
By leveraging impactful research and targeted advocacy, CADD continues to lead initiatives that create a safer and more responsible society.
